    Position Summary

    Position Description

    The Vice President of Product Operations will be a senior member of the Product management team, responsible for directing a team of Product Operations personnel and overseeing the day to day duties of the Product Operations (“PO”) group. Reporting to the Head of Product for Nexstar Digital, the VP will work closely with other senior Product team members to set and implement the strategic and operational priorities of the PO team. The Product Operations team will be the Product organization’s operational face to Nexstar’s broadcast teams and stations, taking a key role in communications, training, product roll-outs, and other critical interface points.  

    The VP of Product Operations has a key role in the two-way communication with the broader Nexstar organization, helping intake, assess, and prioritize bug reports and feature requests from all areas of the business. As such, the candidate will also work closely with stakeholders from Project Management, Revenue, Content, Engineering, and Business Development. The ideal candidate will be a motivated, passionate leader with deep digital experience that operates effectively in independent and team collaboration settings alike. The candidate must understand digital analytics, content management systems, newsroom workflows, and publishing/broadcast industry trends. Knowledge of digital video. native apps, and OTT is a major plus, as is a familiarity with/ability to learn Customer Support software. An ability to write clear, actionable product requirements in an Agile software development environment is also a must. 

    He/she should have strong business acumen, solid technology experience, and familiarity with the broadcast industry. The candidate should also have experience dealing with, and communicating to, multiple geographically diverse local markets within a larger publishing or broadcast.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    Responsibilities

    • Establish the Product Operations group’s  strategy and day to day operations
    • Manage a team of Product Operations personnel
    • Interface directly with Nexstar stations and other Nexstar stakeholders
    • Conduct training and coordinate/perform digital product rollouts
    • Contribute to and communicate the Product group’s priorities and roadmap
    • Write clear requirements and perform User Acceptance Testing
    • Become an authority on newsroom content management and other digital systems
    • Craft solid, detailed Product artifacts such as Release Notes and training documentation
    • Intake, triage, and follow-through on stakeholder bug/feature reports via systems like ZenDesk
    • Communicate effectively up, down, and laterally to all areas of the business
    • Develop and cultivate an intimate knowledge of our internal and external audiences
    • Be an adept user of internal systems such as Jira, Confluence, and others 

    Minimum Qualifications

    • 10+ years in Digital Publishing or Broadcast product or operations
    • 5+ years leading a team and managing the work of others. Knowledge or prior experience in media/entertainment or with a direct to consumer digital presence a plus
    • Bachelor's degree required. 
    • Strong cultural and team leadership skills
    • Capable of having strategic conversations at the executive level and tactical discussions across teams to ensure a proper vision and our ability to execute remain in lock step
    • Creative problem-solver with ability to look beyond existing business and technology limitations to identify the “next thing”
    • Proven success in the execution/product management of large-scale projects
    • Excellent client-facing and internal communication skills
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Solid organizational skills including attention to detail and multitasking skills
    • Experience with a multitude of Content Management Systems (WordPress, homegrown, etc.)
