Position Summary is seeking a highly skilled and driven individual to join the WAVY-TV/WVBT-TV team as a Digital Content Producer.


The ideal candidate will have strong news judgment, must be innovative, reader-focused and full of creativity. Applicant must also be a compelling and accurate writer, capable of multi-tasking in a fast-paced and deadline-driven environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities 

  • Produce engaging content for the Living Local section of
  • Generate story ideas that cater to the Hampton Roads audience.
  • This position is responsible for posting news content in addition to lifestyle content for the website and other digital channels*.
  • Follow the station’s social media strategies to generate ideas and content to advance growth of audience.
  • Monitor trending stories and video through ChartBeat, CrowdTangle, Google and Twitter trends and other social monitoring platforms.
  • Create and maintain a robust editorial calendar and manage, proof, and copy-edit content from staff producers.
  • Shoot and edit video content. (*online/mobile/social/email)


  • Degree in journalism or related field.
  • At least one-year prior professional experience in broadcast or print journalism.
  • Strong writing and copy-editing skills, with knowledge of Associated Press style. Applicants will be given timed writing tests, to include story, headline and social media writing.
  • Expert-level knowledge of social media channels, their use, and best practices (including SEO).
  • Written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Suite products preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of HTML/CSS
  • Understanding of design for content management systems, usability and accessibility practice and reader focus are essential.
  • Must be able to meet deadlines and produce a high volume of content.
  • Available to work flexible hours, including night, weekend and holidays shifts.
